Suntech’s Distributed Solar Journey: Powering Homes and Businesses Across China

Suntech’s Distributed Solar Journey: Powering Homes and Businesses Across China
As China advances its dual-carbon goals, clean energy is moving beyond large-scale solar farms. Rooftops across cities and rural communities, as well as industrial facilities and business parks, are becoming an increasingly important source of clean energy.

With more than 20 years of experience in the Chinese PV market, Suntech has remained focused on local needs and diverse regional conditions. By developing tailored solutions for residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) applications, Suntech is bringing efficient solar power to homes, schools, factories, and commercial buildings across China.

Solar for Rural Homes: Turning Rooftops into Clean Energy Assets

China’s vast rural areas are a key market for residential solar. From the cold, windy, and dry conditions of northern China to the humid and rainy climate of the south, regional differences place higher demands on module durability, low-light performance, and long-term reliability.

Rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach, Suntech develops solutions tailored to local climate conditions, helping households turn underutilized rooftops into productive clean energy assets.

Ruyang Dongbao Village Rooftop Project

The 300 kW residential solar project in Dongbo Village, Fuyang, Anhui, leverages the region’s abundant solar resources and extensive residential rooftops to create a scalable model for village-level distributed PV.

The system enables households to use solar power directly, reducing electricity costs, while surplus electricity can be fed into the grid to generate long-term returns. During peak summer demand, solar generation can also help meet household loads such as lighting, air conditioning, and appliances.

Yanshi Niuzhuang School Rooftop Project

The 198 kW rooftop PV project at a school in Niuzhuang Village, Henan, makes effective use of existing public-building space without disrupting daily teaching activities.

The system provides clean electricity for lighting, educational equipment, air conditioning, and other school operations, helping reduce electricity costs while generating additional green energy revenue through surplus power fed into the grid.

Solar for Businesses: Driving Efficiency and Low-Carbon Growth

For manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and industrial parks, high daytime electricity demand and commercial power costs create significant pressure. Large factory rooftops, including those with metal and concrete structures, offer valuable space for distributed solar.

Suntech provides tailored solutions for lightweight rooftop applications, large-scale installations, and integrated solar-plus-storage projects, helping businesses reduce energy costs and advance their low-carbon goals.

Suntech Green Energy HQ Building BIPV Project

Suntech’s headquarters eco-building in Wuxi is a landmark example of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). Its 6,900-square-meter solar façade has a total capacity of 1.01 MW, integrating PV modules into the building exterior to combine power generation, shading, thermal insulation, and architectural design.

The system generates approximately 435,000 kWh of electricity annually, meeting around 80% of the building’s office, lighting, and air-conditioning needs. It also reduces annual CO₂ emissions by approximately 248 tonnes.

From rural rooftops to urban commercial buildings and industrial facilities, Suntech continues to adapt its PV solutions to China’s diverse environments. Drawing on more than two decades of local climate data and expertise, Suntech continues to advance high-efficiency TOPCon and BC technologies, including half-cut module designs, bifacial dual-glass solutions, and enhanced weather resistance.

Supported by a localized service network covering system design, installation, grid connection, and O&M, Suntech is making distributed solar easier to deploy, more reliable to operate, and more sustainable over the long term.

Looking ahead, Suntech will continue to deepen its presence in China’s residential and C&I solar markets, developing integrated solar-plus-storage solutions tailored to local needs and helping more rooftops harness the power of the sun.
