SMM Tier 1 is an independent assessment across the BESS and PV markets, developed by Shanghai Metals Market. Its comprehensive methodology adopts a multi-dimensional evaluation framework covering five key areas: enterprise scale and shipment volume, financial health and bankability, project delivery and track record, technology and R&D, and ESG and sustainability. Through multi-source data collection, cross-verification and independent review, the assessment provides a transparent and objective benchmark for evaluating suppliers’ overall competitiveness and long-term capabilities.
This recognition highlights Suntech’s strong industrial foundation and long-standing commitment to the PV industry. With more than 25 years of experience in solar manufacturing, Suntech has continuously enhanced its manufacturing processes, advanced its technological development and expanded its product portfolio to address evolving market demands. Through a sustained focus on manufacturing quality, product reliability and technological innovation, the company continues to deliver high-performance PV solutions and create long-term value for customers and partners worldwide.

Beyond this industry recognition, Suntech also contributed to discussions on the evolving European solar market. On November 2, Edgardo Lagos, Suntech’s Country Manager, participated in a panel discussion titled “How Next-Generation Module Technologies (TOPCon, HJT, BC, CPV) Reshape Project Profitability in Europe”, where industry representatives discussed how emerging PV technologies are influencing project economics and investment decisions.

During the discussion, Lagos shared Suntech’s perspectives on several key considerations for European solar projects.
Efficiency should translate into measurable project value. Higher module efficiency can help maximize installed capacity in space-constrained projects or reduce balance-of-system costs for projects with fixed capacity targets. However, its actual value should be assessed in the context of the entire system, including installation costs and lifetime energy generation. Suntech continues to advance N-type TOPCon technology through products such as its Ultra T 3.0 Quarter-Cut modules, focusing on delivering greater value at the project level.
Technology selection should reflect different application needs. TOPCon, HJT and BC technologies each have distinct characteristics, and no single technology is necessarily suited to every market or application. Utility-scale projects, commercial and industrial rooftops, and residential installations have different priorities in terms of system costs, power density, energy yield and product appearance. The most suitable solution depends on the specific requirements and economics of each project.
Long-term reliability remains essential to project returns. Beyond module efficiency and initial purchase price, developers should also consider manufacturing quality, degradation characteristics, warranty terms and the manufacturer’s ability to provide long-term support. As solar projects represent long-term investments, consistent product quality and dependable customer support are essential to building confidence and ensuring lasting value.
These perspectives demonstrate Suntech’s commitment to advancing PV technology while ensuring that innovation translates into tangible benefits across different solar applications.
Building on this recognition, Suntech will continue to strengthen its commitment to the European solar market through technological innovation, high-quality products and close collaboration with local partners. The company remains focused on addressing evolving market needs and contributing to the development of a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
