Inspiration
Suntech's founder and chairman, Dr. Zhengrong Shi, holds a bachelor's degree in optical science, a master's degree in laser physics and a PhD in electrical engineering. Decades ago, Dr. Shi recognized the detrimental environmental impact of mankind’s reliance on fossil fuels, which results in high levels of carbon dioxide emissions and contributes to global warming. Dr. Shi has dedicated his career to searching for new and better ways to capture the sun’s energy to generate electricity. During his distinguished career, Dr. Shi has been awarded 11 patents and is now widely regarded as one of the world's pre-eminent photovoltaic scientists.
