San Francisco International Airport The Suntech solar power system makes San Francisco International the “greenest” airport and is a significant step toward the city’s goal to become the “greenest” city in the United States. This installation will deliver annual energy savings of 669,000 kilowatt hours and will reduce carbon dioxide by about 7,200 tons over a 30 year period. In conjunction with the replacement of 6,000 old lighting fixtures with more efficient lighting, the Suntech solar array will provide enough power for all daytime lighting needs within Terminal 3.

Greater Murcia, Spain Municipality Suntech Solar Modules are used to power 4,700 homes in Murcia, Spain. The Greater Murcia Municipality constructed four solar power plants located at La Alcayana, El Canarico, Los Valients and El Carche that are among the most advanced photovoltaic power systems in the world today. Each plant is equipped with a central weather station, remote control and monitoring systems, closed circuit television and advanced anti-theft measures. The combined energy savings of the four plants will reach 16,900,000 kilowatt hours and 13,800 tons of carbon dioxide will be reduced annually.

Shell Eco-marathon 2008 In April 2008, teams from 38 schools across the United States gathered at California Speedway for the Shell Eco-Marathon. PULSAR, the solar powered competition vehicle engineered by Purdue Solar Racing (PSR) using Suntech photovoltaic cells, placed 1st in the solar division and also won an award for being the most efficient vehicle at the competition. With Suntech’s solar cell technology, the car exceeded the team’s best expectations and they were thrilled with the performance. The success of Pulsar in the Shell Eco-marathon showed that solar technology has unlimited potential for powering our lives. “I think the message of the usefulness of solar energy was very apparent at the race,” said Josh Kaufman, President of Purdue Solar Racing. With increasingly advanced solar technology from Suntech and the ingenuity of young engineers like the Purdue Solar Racing team, the day may not be so far off when our everyday transportation needs are powered by the sun.

Pecos Community Center The City of Phoenix uses the Pecos Community Center to educate the public about solar energy. The city installed a monitor in a public area that displays how the Suntech system powers the Community Center. Over the lifetime of the installation, the system will reduce fossil fuel use by 20% and save the city money as well. The installation posed several unique challenges, including a prohibition on making any roof penetrations. The installer created an innovative ballasted roof mounting system that accommodates the uneven roof surfaces and provides an aesthetically pleasing installation.
