Introducing Reliathon

The next step for utility-scale solar

intro_reliathon-hero

The secret to scaling solar is not simply building bigger power plant components. It’s redesigning and integrating best-of-breed industry components so they work better together. To accomplish this, Suntech developed a new utility-grade module, Reliathon, and brought together key solar industry tracker and inverter partners to support the new design.

The result is an alternative to the patchwork approach to utility-scale solar. The smart new design of Suntech Reliathon modules combined with pre-negotiated preferential pricing on trackers and inverters help you save time and money by driving down installation and Balance of Plant costs. In fact, Reliathon can reduce total system costs as much as 10%.

But reducing costs for developers is not the whole story. Suntech increases the value of solar projects for financiers, too. The Reliathon module introduces an industry-leading 25-year utility-grade warranty with 12-year workmanship coverage (extended from 5 years) and 25-year power output coverage based on annual degradation instead of 12 and 25-year step-downs.

13.8% Better Power Warranty

In an industry first, the Reliathon 25-year utility-grade warranty includes an “annual step-down” feature that warrants module output at yearly intervals for more precise—and valuable—power output expectations. In the first year, Suntech warrants 1% degradation. Through year 21, we warrant a 0.5% yearly reduction, followed by 1% for the remaining four years. Overall, the new terms warrant an industry-leading 85% power output level at year 25 (compared to 80% for conventional modules).¹

Since banks and project developers base project revenue on expected power output, the Reliathon module offers significantly improved returns compared to conventional modules.

Developed with and for the Utility Industry

When we began designing a next generation solution for the utility solar market, we first went to the experts: our customers. We spent time with dozens of utility-industry insiders, asking them how they would best optimize their project development. Their biggest request, of course, was to help them increase profitability. When customers suggested criteria for their ideal solution, we got to work.

The result of this customer-centric approach incorporates needs that utility industry stakeholders said were most important: system reliability and predictability; integrated system design; a new warranty that increases profitability by warranting higher output; and lower installation and maintenance costs.
